THE FILM DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL OF THE PHILIPPINES AND OLSBERG•SPI AGREE PARTNERSHIP TO CREATE A STRATEGIC ROADMAP FOR THE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE OF THE PHILIPPINE FILM INDUSTRY
The Film Development Council of the Philippines (“FDCP”) and global screen sector consultancy Olsberg•SPI (“SPI”) announce a collaboration on the development of a strategic roadmap for the future of the film industry in the Philippines. The roadmap will underpin the FDCP’s main priorities of strengthening the country’s domestic film industry and expanding the potential to attract more international productions.
Currently, both the Philippine and international screen sectors face challenges such as highly competitive funding opportunities, rising production costs, and the increasing need to constantly evolve interdisciplinary technical and creative skill sets. Recognising the necessity to address these challenges and adapt to the rapidly evolving global screen sector, the roadmap will provide actionable recommendations to create a sustainable, inclusive and competitive Philippine film industry.
The collaboration will involve a series of workshops between SPI and FDCP executives and the wider team to shape the strategic roadmap, tailored to the needs of the local industry. Throughout the process, SPI will deliver best-practice insights across various screen sector development areas, such as economic impact measurement, workforce capacity building, and robust data monitoring. The roadmap recommendations will also be collaboratively developed and stress-tested for practical application.
To be finalised in 2025, the roadmap will deliver goals and targets that will address challenges and gaps, and will also outline the strategic direction of the Philippine film industry in the next five to 10 years.
The strategic roadmap partnership will have five key elements:
- A mapping of the Philippine film industry, including both domestic and inward international production, using available data, and collating data through primary research
- A SWOT assessment of the Philippine film industry, covering both domestic and inward international considerations
- Benchmarking the Philippines’ film industry with other markets, providing examples of best practice and lessons for the roadmap, including the potential of the Philippines to compete globally as an attractive location
- An assessment of the FDCP and its capacity to manage the growth of the sector
- Recommended actions to drive future and sustainable growth in the Philippines’ film industry over the next five to 10 years.
SPI Managing Director, Leon Forde said:
“We are delighted to be announcing this partnership with the FDCP. The Philippine film industry has well over a century of history and SPI will be bringing our international insight and knowledge to help develop a roadmap that can build on this great foundation while taking advantage of new opportunities being created in the fast-moving global screen landscape.”
The FDCP invites all stakeholders and members of the public to engage with this initiative and contribute to shaping the future of the Philippine screen sector.
